The Dangers of the Sun

Years ago, information about skin cancer and the dangers of the sun wasn't as prevalent as it is today. We have to educate ourselves about the dangers of the sun. As a skincare professional it is my duty to inform you about the sun and it's harmful effects. Always wear an SPF higher than 15. Avoid sunbathing between 10 am thru 4pm when UV rays are most intense. Always wear sunglasses, a hat and don't tan in tanning beds. Re-apply sunscreen every two hours.

Being in the sun not only you will damage your skin and develop hyperpigmantation you can also get skin cancer. Most skin cancers occur on parts of the body that is exposed regularly to the sun. These are the head, neck face, hands, shoulders, back, and legs. Those who are fair skin, sunburn the most and those who have been exposed for many years in the sun.

Tanning Beds

Tannings booths use ultraviolet rays. Both UVA and UVB rays cause skin damage. UVA goes deeper into the skin and causes sun damage.

Skin Cancer Risk Factors

  • Fair Skin
  • Sunburning easily
  • Having moles
  • Being exposed in the sun repeatedly

Signs

  • A mole that has been raised above the skin
  • A mole that grows very quickly
  • A scaly growth
  • Sore that doesn't heal
  • A mole that itches
